Hannibal’s Virtual Library is the on-line resource offered at www.hannibal.lib.mo.us. The Hannibal Free Public Library offers hands-on classes in using the electronic resources to find full-text magazine articles, e-books, local history, genealogical information and more, according to Library Director Hallie Yundt Silver.
At 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, library patrons can learn what is available in print and electronic formats to improve their employment skills, get a job or find a career.
The library also many resources for people to use at home, Yundt Silver continued.
The hands-on class called “Gardening, Cooking & Crafts” meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20. “Genealogy On-Line” meets at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. “Health & Wellness Resources” meets at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 3:30 p.m.
Teen Tech Nights are at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27 and Monday, Oct. 4. Teens will learn how Hannibal’s Virtual Library can help them succeed in school, and pizza will be served to participants.
Teachers and daycare providers needing to earn continuing education credits can benefit from the library’s free hands-on classes. Three sessions of “Hannibal’s Virtual Library for Teachers” are offered this year. They will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14; Tuesday, Oct. 19; and Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Each free hands-on class lasts about 1 1/2 hours. Class size is limited, so pre-registration is suggested. Reservations are being accepted at the front desk at Hannibal Free Public Library, 200 S. 5th St., or over the phone at (573) 221-0222. Everyone is invited to participate, Yundt Silver said.
