South Shelby school board accepts insurance bids

Shelbina, MO —

Insurance bids were a topic of discussion during the Shelby County R-IV Board of Education’s meeting Tuesday.
A proposal from Anthem for dental insurance and voluntary life insurance was accepted. On a vote of 6-1, the board accepted the Flex Plan administration from Hawkins Agency. AIG’s vision proposal through Joe E. Martin was also accepted.
In other business:
• The weighted grades program and data evaluation were reviewed. A motion to add geography, a dual credit course, to the weighted grades class offerings was approved.
• A motion was approved implementing a random student drug testing policy beginning in the 2008-09 school year.
• The board will sponsor a barbecue for staff and their spouses on Monday, Aug. 11. All staff will begin the 2008-09 school year with a breakfast at the middle school on Friday, Aug. 15.
• Interest was expressed at looking into the cost of insulating the middle school.
• An update on the concession stand project was presented.
• Shannon Little and Lisa Youse were hired as special education aide for the 2008-09 school year.
