Troop B of the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Macon reported its 16-county area had 554 traffic accidents from January through April 30, which was six more than January through April 2007. Of that total, 93 were in April of this year, compared to 106 in April 2007. A total of 294 people were injured in accidents through April of this year, including 45 in April.
Marion County had 71 accidents this year compared to 67 in 2007. Only Randolph County had more accidents in Troop B, with 82 this year and 88 in 2007. Macon County was next after Marion, with 66 this year and 65 in 2007. Ralls had 55 this year and 45 in 2007. Shelby County had 29 this year, more than doubling its 2007 total of 14. Lewis County had nearly the same total, with 42 this year and 41 in 2007.
The Troop B area had 10 fatalities in 2007 and has had seven in 2008. The 2007 fatalities included two in Marion and Randolph counties, and one each in Chariton, Clark, Linn, Monroe, Ralls and Sullivan. This year’s fatalities included three in Monroe County, two in Clark, and one each in Macon and Schuyler counties.
