A man suspected of having committed a rape in Hannibal earlier this week has been charged with the crime.
A warrant was issued Thursday by Judge John Jackson of the 10th Judicial Circuit for Jermaine Burnett of St. Louis, charging him with a Class A felony of forcible rape. The crime allegedly happened Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Hannibal.
The issuance of the warrant was based on evidence discovered during a joint investigation between the Hannibal Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD).
While unable to provide many details regarding the case, Sgt. Gina Webb of the MCSD did say that cooperation between the two law enforcement agencies led to the case’s quick resolution.
“It just worked out very, very well between the two agencies,” she said. “If it hadn’t been for the Hannibal Police Department working with us so well we would never of probably found him, or it would have taken us a lot longer to find him.”
Burnett’s bond was set at $100,000 cash only. Burnett was scheduled to be arraigned via a video connection Friday in Marion County Circuit Court in Hannibal.
A Class A felony carries a possible sentence of 15 years to life in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
