Shelby County school board hears details on enhanced enterprise zone

Shelbina, MO —

Members of the Shelby County R-IV Board of Education received information concerning an enhanced enterprise zone, which is a tax abatement for new or expanding businesses, during its June meeting.
In other business:
• It was agreed that breakfast and lunch prices for 2008-09 will be the same as the previous school year:  Full breakfast, 95 cents; reduced, 30 cents; adults, $1.20; and extra breakfast, $1.20. Lunch, full middle school/high school, $1.40; full elementary, $1.35; reduced, 40 cents; adults, $1.95; and extra trays, $1.65.
• A bid was accepted from the Clarence Courier for printing forms.
• The district’s tax rate hearing was scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, in the South Shelby Middle School Library.
• The cross country coaching salary of $2,576 was approved.
• The 2008-09 budget was approved.
• Approval was given seeking dual credit agreements with multiple institutions, full reimbursement to 2003-04 dual credit teachers be grandfathered in for 2008-09 and other teachers’ reimbursement will be based on the number of students enrolled, not to exceed $1,000 per year per class period - $20 per student per semester, $40 per student per year.
• The administration will review designated smoking areas in accordance with the district’s use of tobacco products policy.
• A 403(B) tax-sheltered annuity plan was adopted.
• The resignation of Marsha Collins was accepted.
• Heidi Dimmitt was hired as the Clarence Elementary secretary.
• The July board meeting will take place on the 17th because of a conflict with the Shelby County Fair.
