The Hannibal-LaGrange College Computer Information Services (CIS) department recently participated in a global project OLPC (One Laptop per Child). The department gave two laptops and received two. These machines are designed to work in remote areas that do not have readily available computing power. The two received will serve as learning tools for CIS majors to help students stay aware of the way computers are moving globally. They will use them in the lab and explore the inter-workings.
The mission statement is: “To create educational opportunities for the world’s poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning. When children have access to this type of tool, they get engaged in their own education. They learn, share, create, and collaborate. They become connected to each other, to the world and to a brighter future.”
