Arrests may be linked to 3-state theft ring

Two people have been charged with felony theft and receiving stolen property following their arrests Monday, Jan. 23, at the Hannibal Walmart, 3650 Stardust.
The 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County has issued warrants for John Benson, 46, of Randolph, Minn., and Sonya Hernandez, 28, of Austin, Minn.
Walmart employees notified Hannibal police that they were following two people who were concealing several items.
Police located and arrested the pair in the parking lot. Found inside their full-sized truck and a 5-foot x 8-foot enclosed trailer attached to the truck were multiple flat screen televisions, entertainment systems, several boxes of diapers, laminate flooring, multiple bottles of detergent, bedding, various items of clothing and numerous other items believed to be stolen. It is believed the suspects had stolen the items throughout the states of Missouri, Iowa, and Minnesota. Some of the stores that may have been targeted are Walmart, Menards, Home Depot, Lowes and Target.
Bond was set at $50,000 cash only.
Arraignments for Benson and Hernandez are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, before Judge John J. Jackson in Marion County Associate Court at Hannibal.
