A Hannibal man was arrested after the Hannibal Police Department was called to investigate an assault in the 200 block of South Main Street at 12:27 a.m. Sunday.
Lt. James Hark of the HPD reported that while responding to the scene, officers were informed a known suspect had fled the scene in his vehicle. As officers were arriving on the scene they discovered two victims had been injured with a sharp object believed to be a knife. The victims were identified as two Hannibal men, 29 and 27 years old.
Additional officers who had been responding to the scene saw a vehicle matching that of the suspect leaving the area. Officers attempted to conduct a stop of the vehicle, and its driver across the Mark Twain Bridge into Illinois. Officers continued to pursue the suspect vehicle, and it stopped shortly after exiting Interstate 336 near the Illinois 106 Hull exit. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as Kenneth J. Barnes, 30, of Hannibal.
Both victims were transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment of their injuries. According to hospital reports, both men are expected to recover from their injuries but remained Sunday for additional treatment. Barnes was taken to the Pike County, Ill., Jail, where he awaited extradition back to Missouri.
