Turning in a time of 21:28 over 5,000 meters, Hannibal High School's Claudia Nichols finished 124th at the state cross country meet on Saturday in Jefferson City. "Claudia had a good effort at the state meet," Hannibal Cross Country Coach Charlie Newland said. "She did not let the atmosphere of the state meet affect her. "Claudia went out at a decent pace through the first mile - 6:28 - and then was able to run consistently throughout the rest of the race. She finished with a decent time considering the wet conditions of the course." Newland applauded the season his runner had. "Claudia had a good season this year," he said. "She was the conference champion and she earned all-district and all-sectional honors. She was also named captain by her teammates. "She is a junior and will be able to use this season as a springboard into track and next year's cross country season. The future is bright for Claudia."
