George C. Carpenter, 85, of Shelbina, went by ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries suffered in a collision at 5:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, in rural Ralls County.

George C. Carpenter, 85, of Shelbina, went by ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries suffered in a collision at 5:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, in rural Ralls County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the collision occurred on Highway 154 at Route F two miles north of Vandalia.

Officers said Carpenter was driving a 2002 Ford Tauras south and failed to yield to a 2003 Hummer H2 driven by Jay E. Garrett, 44, of Wentzville. The Carpenter car stopped on its wheels and the Garrett vehicle overturned and stopped on the passenger side. Garrett was wearing a seat belt and did not report injuries.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ralls County Sheriff's Department and Vandalia Rural Fire Department.
