County personnel replaced a narrow concrete bridge with a culvert this week on Marion County Road 404.
Marion County Road 404 was closed to traffic Thursday morning for the conclusion of a bridge replacement project.
A backhoe compacted dirt on the shoulder where an old bridge was replaced with a culvert.
“It was a small and narrow bridge, which had concrete sidewalls,” Marion County Presiding Commissioner Lyndon Bode said. “We are happy to have this project completed.”
The County Road 404 bridge was one of three small bridges the county commission had targeted for replacement this year. The other two bridges are located approximately 0.25 of a mile apart on County Road 153, near MO Route M. The larger of the two bridges is 26 feet wide and has a 10-ton weight limit.
Bode said the county will save a “tremendous amount of money” by using culverts at the County Road 153 sites rather than concrete bridges.
