Three people were injured Monday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident in Pike County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the mishap happened at 5:50 p.m., Aug. 27, at U.S 54 west of U.S. 61.

A Chevrolet HHR, operated by 75-year-old Judith R. Stine of Wellsville, was traveling westbound while a Chevrolet Prizm, driven by 25-year-old Elizabeth A. Hainline of Louisiana, was eastbound on U.S. 54. As the HHR began to overtake a third vehicle while in the eastbound lane of U.S. 54 the front of the HHR struck the front of the Prizm. The HHR then crossed back into the westbound lane and struck a third vehicle. The HHR and Prizm traveled off the south side of the road. The third vehicle left the accident scene.

Stine and Elizabeth A. Hainline both sustained moderate injuries. A passenger in the Hainline vehicle, one-year-old Renzi A. Hainline, suffered minor injuries.

Stine was transported by ambulance to Pike County Memorial Hospital. Elizabeth A. and Renzi A. Hainline  were taken by ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital. All three of the injured were wearing safety devices at the time of the mishap.
