Hannibal Street Department personnel were wrapping up a sidewalk project Thursday morning on Maple Avenue.

A Hannibal Street Department sidewalk project near the intersection of Maple Avenue and Broadway was nearing completion on Thursday.

According to Mike McHargue of the Street Department before the project began the previous sidewalk in that location had been in “horrendous shape.”

In addition to putting in new sidewalk another objective of the project was to address drainage issues in that location.

The project presented challenges that were likely unnoticeable to the untrained eye.

“There were a lot of the slopes and curves,” said McHargue.

McHargue reports that work at that location began approximately two weeks ago. He anticipated that the project would conclude on Friday, Aug. 10, provided that asphalt is available for use locally.
