The Hannibal's Got Talent show sponsored by HOMEBANK was scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, in Tanyard Gardens but was delayed for an anticipated rainstorm to pass.

After some clouds blew over and no rain fell, the show was started, with clouds still threatening.

Some contestants in the youngest division had departed before emcee Chad Douglass of KHQA TV called their names to perform.

Jaycees Adrienne Abright and Sara Rothweiler served as co-chairpersons of the Talent Show. Winners received cash prizes and donations from local agencies and businesses.

Age 12 and under winners were Chase Youngworth, 10, first place; Adriana Schmidt, 11; second; and Robert Wealer, 11, third.

Chase did a martial arts demonstration. Adriana played a guitar and sang “Riptide.” Robert played a drum set.

Winners of the age 13 to 17 division were Michaela Johnston, 17, first; Delaney Cooke, 17, second; and Rich Bliesener II, 13, third.

Age 18 and over winners were Joe Smith, first place; Awaiting the Gallows, second place with members Dewayne Landrith (guitar), Flint Dorsey (singer), Austin Evans (bass) and Logan Harrison (drums); and Mike Moore, third place.

As the contestants arrived in Tanyard Gardens, some explained their performances. Among them was Jason Cunningham, a rap singer and songwriter. He was to perform “More Than Enough,” and took time to explain the song's message. “When we're feeling alone and desperation sets in, we have a Savior, Jesus Christ, who presents Himself as the great El Shadaii.… With these troublesome times, we have answers to life's questions.”

Jill Maple, chief information officer with HOMEBANK, and Jaycee member Stephanie Ellis, branch leader at HOMEBANK, explained this is the bank's first year to sponsor the talent show.
