A 63-year-old Hannibal man is facing two charges of child molestation for allegedly molesting a girl younger than 12 years old at his camper near Palmyra.

Robert P. Branch, 63, of Hannibal, was charged with two counts of second-degree child molestation Thursday by Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton. Branch is charged with having sexual contact outside the clothing of a female under the age of 12 years.

The range of punishment is from 5 to 15 years in prison on each count for a total of 30 possible years in prison. Branch is currently housed in the Monroe County Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond. His first court date has not been set.

“My office is working closely with the Missouri State Highway Patrol as the investigation is ongoing,” Clayton said. “We’re taking the matter very seriously.”
