Another batch of produce was being harvested Monday from the Victory Over Hunger Garden on Hannibal’s South Side.

Year two of the Victory Over Hunger Garden project in Hannibal is well under way, according to Gordon Ipson, one of the program’s founders.

“We have actually had two harvests; this is our third,” he said Monday morning at the South Side garden site. “We have harvested onions, lettuce and romaine lettuce already.

“We will probably have a little each week until the garden quits producing, which hopefully will be some time in September or October.”

In addition to some dedicated volunteers, helping tend the garden are Kids in Motion participants.

“They will be coming about once a week through the third week of July to help out,” said Ipson. “Most of what we have been doing today is weeding, watering and moving dirt around to various spots.”

Much of the produce is donated to the Loaves and Fishes meal program.
