The Monroe City Police Chief is warning the community of a surge in fake money circulation.
Chief Tyler Wheeler said his department has launched an investigation into what he termed “an influx of counterfeit currency.”
“Numerous businesses have received or accepted the counterfeit monies,” Wheeler said in a press release.
The fake bills are of all denominations, including $1 bills, $5 bills, $10 bills, $20 bills, $50 bills and $100 bills. Some of the bills passed have the same serial numbers.
Wheeler encouraged residents and merchants to be vigilant and check all bills at the counter. If you suspect a bill you have is fake, contact your local police department to have the bill inspected.
