On Tuesday, May 15, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Marion County jail staff members were conducting routine security checks when they found a 50-year-old white male unresponsive in his cell.

Marion County Sheriff’s Department personnel are investigating an incident at the county’s jail.

On Tuesday, May 15, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Marion County jail staff members were conducting routine security checks when they found a 50-year-old white male unresponsive in his cell.

The subject was transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital for medical treatment and has since been transferred to another facility. Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn said the man was in serious condition as of Wednesday afternoon. Shinn described the injuries as self-inflicted.

The identity of the man weren’t available by the Courier-Post press deadline. Shinn says more information will likely be available once an investigation is completed.
