Hannibal Street Department personnel were installing a new section of curb in the 500 block of Central Avenue on Thursday.

Hannibal Street Department personnel were installing a new “curb” in front of the driveway of a home located in the 500 block of Central Avenue on Thursday morning.

A drainage problem was inadvertently caused last year when the street received a fresh coat of asphalt.

“The curb was covered by asphalt last year. Now the street is higher (than the driveway), so (storm)water is running down his drive. We’re putting his curb back,” said Mike McHargue of the street department.

A four-man crew was working at the scene. It was anticipated that the project would take approximately an hour to complete, according to McHargue.

The asphalt being used at the site was “recycled” material.
