Six Hannibal High School speech team members competed in the school's annual Mahan Oral Competition.

Participants were Evan Wallace, Grace McIntosh, John Fritch, Ashlyn Nichols, Claudia Nichols, and Caleb Wilson.

“Each put in great effort and qualified as one of the six representatives,” speech teacher Blake Niemann said. “I am proud of the successful performance of each.”

Taking fourth place was Grace McIntosh, speaking on animal euthanasia. Claudia Nichols took third place with her speech on the moral decline in America. Caleb Wilson's fiery speech on gun violence titled "Never Again" won second place. First place went to Ashlyn Nichols with her elegant and insightful speech on racial diversity titled "Winning the Race".

“Each person brought a lot of passion and great thoughts as they opened up and shared their views on controversial issues,” Niemann said.
