Cheers of “dilly, dilly,” will resound through the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, as the 35th Annual Chili Cook-off takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.

Cheers of “dilly, dilly,” will resound through the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, as the 35th Annual Chili Cook-off takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.

Melissa Haynes, with the Chili Cook-Off, said “Dilly Dilly” comes from the medieval-themed Bud Light commercials, and the cheer represents “friends, fellowship and beer.” So far, 13 teams have joined the popular local competition to see who has the best chili recipe in the area. Haynes said she also looks forward to the Beer Olympics on the stage and the return of mouse races. Participants can choose a medieval theme or dress up to reflect friendship and Bud Light.

When the doors open at 11 a.m., chili sampling will begin. The first 100 paid entrants receive a free “Dilly Dilly” coozie. The event will offer lots of opportunities for friends to visit with one another, and participants vote for the winning chili recipe. At the end of the evening, a free sober shuttle ride will be available to get everyone home safely.

The entry fee is $5 per person, and the event is open to visitors 21 years of age and older. The 35th Annual Chili Cook-off is made possible by Golden Eagle Distributing and the Hannibal Jaycees.
