Missouri Department of Transportation personnel were performing maintenance on U.S. 36 bridges in Hannibal on Thursday.

To help ensure that U.S. 36 bridges remain in good condition, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) periodically checks the spans and performs any necessary maintenance. On Thursday, MoDOT personnel were working in Hannibal.

“This morning they are working on the Hwy 36/Munger Lane overpass, and then hopefully this afternoon they will be working on the Hwy 36/79 overpass,” said Lissie Wade of MoDOT.

According to Wade, the work varies depending on the need.

“Every bridge maintenance job is different. For example, not too long ago, they were filling rock to a few overpasses,” she said. “What they’re doing today to these two overpasses is filling cracks with a rubber seal to prevent water from seeping into the joints.”
