U.S. 61 was reduced to one lane near Fair Oaks Drive in Hannibal on Thursday so some damaged trees could be safely brought down or trimmed.

Several damaged trees on state right-of-way were either being brought down or trimmed Thursday morning in Hannibal by a handful of maintenance personnel with the Missouri Department of Transportation.

“During the strong winds, a few trees were reported by customers as falling over,” said Lissie Wade of MoDOT.

The work was taking place in the Fair Oaks Drive area, adjacent to U.S. 61.

Because the work zone was in close proximity to the highway, traffic in a portion of southbound U.S. 61 was reduced to one lane between West Ely Road and Marion County Route MM.

According to Wade, what was described as emergency roadside work, was expected to be completed by mid afternoon Thursday.
