In the course of one week, 70 jackets and coats have found new homes at the Parker and Associates — Hannibal Office, as their “Share the Warmth” outreach efforts continues to grow throughout the community.

Justin Parker said the Crossing Thrift Store donated the rack that sits in the drive thru area at 105 N. Maple St., across from the Abel's Shell convenience store. Family Dollar also donated items for warmth, joined by numerous individuals who stopped by. Employees at the office recently purchased 45 coats for $1 each to hang on the rack outside, and Parker encouraged community members to check through their closets for jackets, coats, blankets, scarves, warm socks and other necessary items to bring by.

He said team members noticed that there was a need in the community, and he said community members have responded with immediate impact, sharing a Facebook post about the campaign 175 times and providing a variety of donations — which Parker said can be dropped off on weekdays or during the weekend. Since the start of the campaign, about 70 jackets and coats have been donated.

So far, the benefits have been just as immediate for community members who need items to stay warm this winter. Parker said some parents have even dropped off a child's coat they had outgrown and swapped it for a larger one.

“I know there have been a lot of people who come, just put them on a hanger,” Parker said. “And then 20 minutes later, somebody's grabbing it.”

Parker said it felt exciting to see a jacket or coat that was on the rack, then see somebody wearing that same coat a few days later. He said the campaign will continue until spring, noting his encouragement upon witnessing how Hannibal community members and organizations joined together to support the cause.

“It's been pretty amazing to see how the City of Hannibal has been embracing this,” Parker said.
