If convicted on this charge, James Everett Keith faces a minimum of five years up to life imprisonment.
A convicted sex offender is again facing charges after allegedly confessing to sodomizing a 13-year-old girl.
First-degree statutory sodomy charges have been filed against James Keith, 53, of Philadelphia, Mo. Keith is accused of having deviate sexual intercourse with the child near her home. He is lodged in the Marion County Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.
If convicted on this charge, he faces a minimum of five years up to life imprisonment.
According to a probable cause statement, the girl's parents discovered messages from Keith on social media accounts and contacted law enforcement. Marion County Detectives contacted Keith at his home on Oct. 31 and took him in for questioning, when he allegedly confessed to the acts. Documents indicate Keith signed a mirandized statement.
Keith's first appearance in associate circuit court is by video on Nov. 3 at 8:15 a.m. in Hannibal. Further court dates will be venued to Palmyra.
An investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed by Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton. If anyone has any additional information that could assist in the investigation, they are asked to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
