Winners of the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department's decorated pumpkin contest on Sunday, Oct. 29, in Nipper Park were chosen by a vote of the people attending the contest.

Pumpkins were displayed at the park Sunday afternoon, where the people voted.

The pumpkins ranged from small to large, with a wide variety of Halloween-related characters depicted on their faces. Some were ghosts, witches or skeletons, and two were the colorful contents of gumball machines. One was a black cat, and another was a scary scene. Several were smiling faces.

While the crowd was selecting their favorite pumpkins, the Pirate Pride singers from Eugene Field Elementary School sang several numbers.

With 19 pumpkins entered in the children's age division - ages 12 and under - three winners were named in each category.

In the adult division - age 13 and over - only five pumpkins were entered, so only first place prizes were awarded, according to Mary Lynne Richards of the Parks and Recreation Department.

The adult winners in the three categories were:

• Spooky – Josephine Crane

• Artistic – Andrea Altiser

• Silly – Claudia Nichols

Winners of the children's division, first through third place respectively, were:

• Spooky – Lilly Houghton, Andrew Clark and Autumn Seamon

• Artistic – Kameil Crane, Tenay Griffith and Tyler Clark

• Silly – Damron Story, Colton Hull and Amara Coffey

Richards reported that some of the decorated pumpkins are on display at the Hannibal City Hall.
