Street department personnel were wrapping up yet another South Side house demolition project on Wednesday.

A light rain did not deter Hannibal Street Department personnel from continuing their cleanup at the site of a recent house demolition on the city’s South Side.

Mike McHargue of the street department suggested Tuesday night that a little rain wouldn’t be a bad thing.

“It will help hold the dust down,” he said.

During Monday’s Building Commission meeting McHargue reported the Valley Street house demolition has taken longer than normal because much of the structure was made of rock.

Some of the stone was used as fill around the foundation.

Dirt was being hauled in Wednesday by city dump trucks. The piles of top soil were then being spread.
