The Hannibal LIONS Club donated over 4500 pairs of used eyeglasses to Saving Sight in August of this year. Saving Site is a nonprofit organization that changes lives through the gift of site through eye donation, eyeglass recycling and vision screenings for children.
This is the first time Saving Sight has received so many glasses at one time. For individuals in developing countries, these eyeglasses can mean the difference between poverty and providing for their families. These eyeglasses will be recycled and provided to humanitarian groups to distribute to those in need abroad. The donation made by the Hannibal Lions Club will assist these groups in providing eye care to people around the world who may otherwise be without.
“This is the largest collection the Hannibal Lions Club has ever gathered in the 25 years we’ve been collecting glasses,” said Hannibal Lions Club member, Bill Craigmiles. “Our club thanks the community for their generous donations.”
The Hannibal Lions Club was the first Lions Club in Missouri and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. They are best known for fighting blindness, along with many other community projects.
