Six people sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision Monday night in Pike County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the accident happened at 9:38 p.m. Sept. 11 on Route UU at County Road 139.

The crash occurred when a westbound 2012 Chevrolet Cruze driven by 19-year-old Michael J. Smith of Bowling Green crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan operated by 62-year-old Janet L. Lucas of Bowling Green.

In addition to Smith, other occupants of the Chevrolet hurt were 23-year-old Kenneth C. Bartley of Vandalia, 21-year-old Brittany A. Ralph of Bowling Green and 18-year-old Adriana Shoemaker of Curryville. All occupants of the Chevrolet except Bartley were wearing safety devices. All of the Chevrolet's injured were transported to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

In the Dodge, one passenger - 64-year-old Debra J. Davis of Bowling Green – was also injured. Both Davis and Lucas were wearing safety devices. Davis was flown to Mercy Hospital. Lucas was taken by ambulance to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
