Utility work was taking place Monday morning south of Palmyra where the extension of County Road is being planned.

Bucket trucks were lined up Monday morning in a field south of Palmyra where an extension of Marion County Road 266 is planned.

Mike Schaefer, county road superintendent, reported during Monday’s county commission meeting that some new power poles have been put up. He added that some additional utility work must occur at the site before the road extension will be able to begin.

Plans for the creation of the approximately one-half mile extension were revealed by the county commission in October 2016.

The project will connect County Road 266 with Business 61. From Business 61 motorists will then be able to reach U.S. 61 following a short drive on Leeser Road.
