Benjamin A. Wood, 41, was arrested on a first degree assault charge at around 10:50 p.m. Aug. 30, 2017, at his home in Clarence, Mo., by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department with the assistance of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.

The Marion County Sheriff's Department reported on July 28 Wood was charged with first degree assault with bond set at $50,000, cash only. He was in the Marion County Jail on Friday, Sept. 1.

Wood allegedly committed the assault on Aug. 15 at around 12:35 a.m. Wood was driving his 1993 Chevrolet Silverado on Highway MM near Hannibal. Wood's truck struck a vehicle occupied by two persons, running it off the road, after turning onto County Road 418.

Wood then fired a shotgun one time into the rear of the vehicle in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was able to be driven away from the area, and no injuries were suffered.

Wood also received warrants from Shelby County for violating his probation and possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept 8.
