Colorful Corvettes lined both sides of North Main Street in downtown Hannibal on Aug. 5 at the annual car show sponsored by Poage Chevrolet Buick and hosted by the Mark Twain Corvette Club.

This 11th annual America's Sports Car in America's Hometown show had 149 cars entered in the competition, with a total of 163 on display. Members of the local Corvette Club do not enter the contests.

The Corvette owners came from Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Arkansas.

Steve and Theresa White of Springfield, Mo., brought their millennium yellow 2004 C-5 Corvette. He explained 2004 was the last year the C-5 was made, and their car “has 50,000 miles on it. It gets driven.” They also own a 1982 Corvette.

White said 10 or 11 members of his Southwest Missouri Corvette Club came to the Hannibal show this year. “This is the first time we have entered the Hannibal show,” he said. “I know it's for a good cause.” (Proceeds go to the Disabled American Veterans organization and the Douglas Community Services.)

The club winning for most participation was the Corvette Club of Illinois, with 19 entries.

David Lovercheck drove 332 miles from his home in Lincoln, Neb., and was honored for traveling the greatest distance.

A Vette owned by Michael Hanley of O'Fallon, Mo., was named Best of Show.

Mayor James Hark chose a Corvette owned by Keith and Judy Suchman of Sunrise Beach, Mo., for his Mayor's Pick.

Tom and Becky selected a car owned by John and Janice Murphy of Pawnee, Ill., as their favorite.

Winners of individual classes in the local show were Steve Eilmann, Moscow Mills, Mo.; Michael Hanley, O’Fallon, Mo.; Roy Saunders, New Haven, Mo.; Terry Crocker, Bismark, Mo.; Adam Schutte, Montgomery City, Mo.; Roger and Mary Stone, Peoria, Ill.; Mike Berry, Chillicothe, Mo.; Joe Nusbaumer, Nixa, Mo.; John and Mary Morak, Wentzville, Mo.

Ron and Vickie Purdy, Columbia, Mo.; Frank Diblasi, Columbia, Mo.; Melissa Dean, Wentzville, Mo.; Joe Donaldson, Mexico, Mo.; James Barmore, Springfield, Mo.; James Heidenreich, Columbia, Ill.; Ron and Pam Scattergood, Chatham, Ill.; Scott and Linda Walker, St. Peters, Mo.; Curtis Heck, Armstrong, Ill.; Charles Mitchell, Farmington, Mo.; Gary and Nancy Hollander, Linn Creek, Mo.

After the show, the coordinators expressed thanks to the show's many sponsors, adding that without them the show would not be possible.

Next year's Hannibal show will be on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018.
