Students living at the NECAC Hannibal Apartments on Centerville Road received their choice of colorful backpacks on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 5, when NECAC hosted a Back-to-School Fair.

George Rosenstengle was excited to choose a bright green backpack, reporting this was his favorite color. Layla Bosley chose a camo backpack. Other students selected a pink, orange, black or blue one.

The approximately 70 students residing in this apartment complex who could not attend on Saturday will receive their backpacks from the NECAC office at the apartments, according to NECAC Deputy Director of Housing Development Carla Potts.

After choosing a backpack, the students were served a barbecue at the picnic area, where they also could have their face painted by Amber Carr, play games and try out a bounce slide.

Jim Ellis was among the students taking turns sitting in a fire truck brought by Shawn Woodside and Kurt Flesner of the Hannibal Fire department, as the firefighters explained the truck's equipment.

Air Evac Flight Medic Jennifer Frame (accompanied by Jeff Frame of the Hannibal Fire Department) manned a booth donating school supplies to the students to fill their backpacks.

Nearby, a YMCA of Hannibal booth manned by Josh McCaskey, sports director, and Kayla Williams, aquatics and marketing director, offered information about local sports.
