The city of Hannibal’s street improvement program was continuing Thursday in the central part of the community.

Despite having reached the goal of quantities used that had been set for this year, Hannibal’s street improvement program is continuing this week.

On Thursday and Friday, South Levering Avenue, Lamb Avenue, Hayden Street and more of North Hawkins Avenue were slated to receive a fresh coat of asphalt by the project’s contractor, Chester Bross Construction.

After working on city streets up until just before the July 4 holiday, Bross resumed its asphalting in Hannibal last week on a section of North Hawkins.

Before Bross could complete its work on North Hawkins, Street Department personnel reportedly worked until approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday to fix some structural issues in the pavement before it was asphalted.
