A piece of equipment that can be used to raise manhole lids was being utilized Wednesday in Hannibal.

A piece of equipment was being checked out Wednesday by the Hannibal Board of Public Works.

“We’re looking at the Mr. Manhole equipment for raising manhole lids on paved streets,” said Mathew Munzlinger of the HBPW. “We brought in Save Our Sewers from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to give us a demonstration on the equipment prior to purchasing the equipment ourselves.”

The city’s paving program has left the HBPW with work to do.

“The paving that the city has completed so far, there’s about 50 to 60 manholes we have to adjust the grade on right now. That is not including the paving they’re going to do later this year or next year,” said Munzlinger.
