The Marion County Highway Department has been resurfacing roads this week in the extreme southern part of the county.

The Marion County Highway Department has been working this week just outside of Hannibal on the city’s southern side.

On Wednesday, county personnel could be found putting down a fresh layer of blacktop on County Road 449.

Presiding Commissioner Lyndon Bode anticipated that the last section of roadway in that area would be completed on Wednesday.

Bode added that the road resurfacing project follows a general cleanup in that same area earlier this year. Bode said the county’s recent work is intended to “piggyback” on the city’s South Side initiative.

“We are real happy to be doing our part,” said Bode.
