From Monroe City to Perry to Paris, cities around Mark Twain lake celebrated July 4th in style.

A cloudless sky and hot sun greeted a large crowd of spectators and participants in the Monroe City Chamber of Commerce 4th of July parade.

More than 50 entries including decorated floats, old cars, tractors, 4-wheelers, and horses participated in the parade.

Meanwhile, in Perry, there was a day of activities and Paris, the First Christian Churched served hamburgers, popcorn, sodas and cookies in advance of a 9:30 p.m. fireworks show that kit the night sky over the Paris Fairgrounds.

At the Monroe City Parade, the Monroe Manor Care Center float recognizing the contribution of the military to the freedom enjoyed by Americans took first place in the Monroe City Chamber of Commerce 4th of July Parade. The Monroe City Nutrition Center’s float honoring volunteers as was named as the second-place winner and taking third place was the Randy Potterfield family’s float recognizing the importance of family.

Winners of the Monroe City Chamber of Commerce Decorated Bicycle Contest were: Emily Lincoln, first place; Bradley Ross, second place; and Brandon Vollrath, third place.
