The Paris R-II Board of Education met June 21. Current business items discussed were as follows: transfer of funds for the purchase of school buses, authorization of 2016-2017 budget amendments in order to set the budget to actual at the close of the fiscal year, approval of the 2017-2018 budget, and approval of the Parents as Teachers agreement with the Monroe County Health Department. The board also took action on items regarding the no tax increase bond issue approved by voters in April.

The bid from Chester Bross Construction was accepted to do the asphalt and concrete work at the elementary school. The roof repair bid from Missouri Builders was also accepted.

Gary Barbee, of Sam Winn & Associates Architects, presented plans to the board on the second phase of bid packages. The board approved bid packages for the remaining work including the new entry into the elementary, window and door replacement, ag classroom upgrades, HVAC, tuck pointing, efficient lighting, drainage, required ADA upgrades, and kitchen improvements.

In the Superintendent’s Report, Aaron Vitt informed the board about MAP and EOC scores. Our district saw gains in several areas. Reading and language arts continue to be areas of strength throughout the district. The district continues to shine in the area of social studies and science. 94% of our students scored advanced or proficient in biology. An update was also given on a “Grow Your Own” teacher program. The K-12 school districts of Monroe County are working together on this project.

Wendy Reid and Chris Willingham gave their monthly reports to the board summarizing what has taken place in their buildings over the past month.

The next meeting of the Paris R-II Board of Education will be on Wednesday, July 19 at 6 p.m.
