The 12-county area not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) and Vatterott College of Quincy, Ill., are again teaming up to seek donations of used air conditioners that will be upgraded and donated to needy residents of Northeast Missouri.

The air conditioners will be distributed to the elderly, disabled and families with critically-ill children in Lewis, Marion, Monroe, Pike, Ralls and Shelby counties. NECAC and Vatterott launched the Cooling NEMO program in 2016, with families receiving air conditioners.

“We are pleased to again partner with Vatterott College to offer this program,” said NECAC County Services Programs Director Linda Fritz. “We often talk about win-win situations, but this program offers a lot of advantages. People who really need an air conditioner during the heat of the summer will have a chance to get one and the students will have the opportunity to test their skills a little more.”

NECAC developed the program based upon a similar effort in the St. Louis area. The re-conditioned units will be made available based upon income and need on a first-come, first-served basis.

Donations of units and applications for air conditioners may be made calling NECAC during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 573-324-6633 or scheduling a drop-off with one of the following NECAC County Service Coordinators:

• Monroe County Service Coordinator Jerry Best: 314 N. Washington in Paris — 660-327-4110.
