WHAT IS IT? Hannibal Street Department employees paint lane markings on Broadway in preparation for July 4 weekend festivities.

With bright new lane markings joining fresh curb paint, downtown's streets were looking their best Monday, June 26 as National Tom Sawyer Days drew near.

Hannibal Street Department Superintendent Rich Dauma said crews have been out throughout downtown, painting curbs and lane markings. The majority of Broadway had fresh white and yellow lane markings, as crew members added reflective glass beads to the painting machine they wheeled in place.

Dauma said that making downtown's streets look their “absolute best” was a priority for the department with festivities just around the corner. Elsewhere in town, city-wide street resurfacing continues, and other projects lie ahead for the 125 miles of local roadways that department crews maintain.
