The man wanted in connection with a Ralls County assault is now facing a Class D felony charge stemming from an incident in New London on June 13.

William Wesley Gauch II is currently lodged in the Marion County Jail and is accused of slapping and kicking an unidentified female at a home in the 200 block of New London. He faces a second-degree assault charge.

According to a probable cause statement filed by Ralls County Prosecuting Attorney Rodney Rodenbaugh, Ralls County Deputies responded to Hannibal Regional Hospital on Tuesday, June 13, where they made contact with an injured female in the emergency department.

The statement indicated the victim struggled to communicate due to the extent of her injuries.

The victim said she stayed the night at a home in New London and at approximately 9:30 a.m. on June 13, the victim heard knocking on the front door. As she opened the door, Gauch allegedly slapped the victim “approximately three times” and the “subsequently punched and kicked (her) an unknown amount of times while on the floor of the room.”

According to documents, Gauch was accompanied by three other people, including his wife wife.

The Ralls County Sheriff's Department posted to its Facebook page the evening of Tuesday, June 13, that deputies were seeking Gauch for questioning in an “attempted murder.” The department deleted the post shortly thereafter.

Gauch was arrested on Sunday, June 18. Online court records show Gauch has a Hannibal address.

Gauch has a criminal record that includes charges for possession, driving while intoxicated, and driving while suspended.

He remains in the Marion County Jail on $25,000 for the assault and three smaller amounts for failure to appear.
