Members of the Hannibal Street Department were placing rip rap Thursday in an area plagued by water erosion.

An area of Hannibal that is periodically plagued by erosion caused by storm-water runoff was being addressed on Thursday morning.

Street Department personnel were working in areas off of Deer Run. It is a part of town where drainage issues have cropped up before.

According to Brian Chaplin, Public Works superintendent, runoff areas on both sides of Deer Run would receive attention. On the north side, a resident was concerned about a sloped runoff area that is frequented by neighborhood children. On the south side, swirling water has caused erosion to a property owner’s yard.

Rip rap was being added in both areas to remedy the problems.
