Hannibal has made history. This will set an example for others fighting for good quality water in their communities. By making a stand and demanding that the powers-that-be listen to the people, you have proven that your vote matters and people can change their community for the better.

Concerned Citizens for Safe Drinking Water and Hannibal/Ralls Co. Citizens for Safe Water could not be prouder of the citizens who got out to vote and who realized that their vote is their voice.

This election has shown us that elections matter. We hope that people will choose to get more involved in their community and pay attention to their city government. We also hope that voter turnout will be higher in all elections in the future. If you are not registered...get registered. Members of Concerned Citizens for Safe Drinking Water and Hannibal/Ralls Co. Citizens for Safe Water did hours upon hours of research, we obtained records, made calls and were responsible for Robert Bowcock's first visit to Hannibal.

Our disagreement was whether or not the issue was political. It is now clear that it is most definitely political and that we have to make changes to laws, rules and the city charter for the voice of the people to be heard.

In our efforts to inform people of the water issue, we shared many documents and videos and the research on Facebook. It was available for everyone to see, use and print if needed. This resulted in individuals taking that information to form a third water group and using the work of the original water groups.

We wanted good quality water for everyone in Hannibal. That goal has been realized since Prop 1 has passed.

However, I feel that Concerned Citizens for Safe Drinking Water and Hannibal/Ralls Co. Citizens for Safe Water need to be recognized for their part in this fight.

I want to say that the members of Concerned Citizens for Safe Drinking Water and Hannibal/Ralls Co. Citizens for Safe Water have told me that they did not need the recognition, because it was about the people of Hannibal and not them. While that is true, they all worked very hard for Hannibal and should not go unnoticed after the sacrifices they have made to bring about change.

I want to thank everyone in Concerned Citizens for Safe Drinking Water and Hannibal/Ralls Co. Citizens for Safe Water for all that they have done and for continuing to fight for the people of Hannibal. I look forward to working together and making even more changes in the future to make our community a better place to live for everyone.
