A Hannibal defendant facing a felony charge of child molestation waived formal reading of information in the case and pleaded not guilty in Marion County 10th Circuit Court on Monday, March 20.

Brent A. Brinkman, of Hannibal, appeared by videoconference from the Marion County Jail before Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd. Public defender Austin Smith represented Brinkman. Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton represented the state. Shepherd denied the defendant's request for a bond reduction, and she set a hearing for disposition of the case or setting of trial dates for 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 17.

Hannibal police officers arrested Brinkman on Friday, Feb. 24, the same day a warrant was issued by the 10th Judicial Circuit Court charging the defendant with the Class B felony of second-degree child molestation.

Brinkman remains lodged in the Marion County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
