The Hannibal Fire Department was called to Hannibal Salvage Thursday on the report that a trailer was on fire.

Pieces of wood and plastic items contained in a trailer were destroyed by a fire shortly after noon Thursday at Hannibal Salvage, at Warren Barrett and Orchard Avenue.

“We extinguished it using foam to help penetrate,” said Capt. Mark VanWinkle, adding that it was initially reported as a vehicle fire. “The fire was under control in about five to 10 minutes or so.”

The cause of the blaze was not known.

“We talked to some of the people working here. They said they had been here since 10 o’clock. They had noticed a little bit of smoke coming out of it, and then all of a sudden there was fire and then we showed up.” said VanWinkle.
