Rates for Marion County in January match one year ago
The unemployment rate in Marion County inched up in January 2017 to 4.4 percent. Although the rate is up from 3.8 percent unemployment in December 2016, the rate exactly matches that of January 2016. The area typically sees a slightly higher unemployment rate at the beginning of the year compared to summer months and the end of the year.
In Ralls County, the unemployment rate crept up from 3.5 percent in December 2016 to 4.1 percent. The January unemployment rate in Ralls County is still half a percentage point lower than the same month last year.
Still, both counties have some of the lowest unemployment rates in Northeast Missouri.
Both counties are in line with the state average unemployment figures, which was set at 4.6 percent in January.
Additionally, the Hannibal micropolitan statistical area fell right in line with overall area and state trends, ending January 2017 with a 4.3 percent unemployment rate.
