A Hannibal man is dead following a wreck Thursday morning in north-central Missouri’s Macon County.

A Hannibal man is dead following a wreck Thursday morning in north-central Missouri’s Macon County.

Sterling Owens, 62, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet truck on U.S. 63 three miles north of Macon when he crossed the center line and struck a semi-truck head on.

The truck was driven by 49-year-old Dennis Armstrong of Rockford, Ill. He was uninjured.

Owens was pronounced dead by Macon County Coroner Brian Hayes at 9 a.m. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident. The Missouri Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Macon Police Department, Macon County Ambulance, Macon County Fire Department, and Hannibal Police Department.

A crash team was called to the scene.
