A Courier-Post investigation found attendance by Hannibal city council members is at a five-year low. While most members maintain attendance rates greater than 90 percent, two council members have had attendance rates less than 70 percent so far in 2016 and around 70 percent for the five years from 2012 to present.
The Hannibal Courier-Post analyzed meeting minutes for five years to see when council members were absent and what important decision were made in their absence.
Council members vote to excuse absences from council meetings, but do not discuss the reason for absences. On four occasions since 2012, the council have not excused absences. None have occurred in 2016.
The absence total in 2016 — 17 so far — equals the amount of absences for all of 2015.
