Hale, Mo., woman dies in collision

Tanya M. Woody, 32, of Hale, Mo., died in a collision at 2:08 p.m. Friday, June 24, on U.S. 36 three miles east of Monroe City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the collision was in the westbound lanes of the highway. Officers said Woody was driving a 1997 Ford E250 van, which rear-ended a 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer truck driven by Juan M. Chavez, 49, of Racine, Wis. The van caught fire and became engulfed.

Woody was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:20 p.m. by Ralls County Coroner Denise Goodwin.

Chavez was not injured. The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ralls County Sheriff's Department, Monroe City Police and Fire Departments, and Monroe City ambulance personnel.
