Please come prepared to share any conflicts, such as trips, camps or job commitments between May 29 and July 21 that would affect your participation in rehearsals or performances.
Parts will be cast for the following roles: The Narrator, El Gallo, a man, strong singer; The Girl, Luisa, a young woman, strong soprano; The Boy, Matt, young man, strong singer; The Boy’s Parent – could be either man or woman; The Girl’s Parent, could be man or woman; The Actor, Henry, strong acting, little or no singing required; Mortimer, his sidekick, little or no singing; and The Mute, male or female, no speaking or singing required. A pianist is also being sought for the show. Those interested in technical or backstage positions are also encouraged to stop by.
“The Fantasticks” was the longest running show of any kind in the United States, and the longest running musical in the world. It was written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt and has been performed all over the world. As the story unfolds, the boy and girl next door fall in love, yearn for the dangerous attractions of the world outside, then opt instead for fulfillment in each other’s arms and in hearth and home. Probably the best known song in the show is the ballad, “Try to Remember.”
